By replacing human dancers with hyper-sexualized, heavy-lidded goldfish that perform slow, undulating movements, the studio uncritically replicated 19th-century European "harem" fantasies for a Western family audience. This voyeuristic framing relies on a white gaze that reduces entire populations to passive, exotic novelties. While Disney eventually removed the explicitly anti-Black caricature "Sunflower" from the Pastoral Symphony segment, the "Arabian Dance" remains completely unedited on streaming platforms today. By continuing to distribute this footage behind generic, passive content warnings, the company avoids structural accountability while continuing to profit from institutionalized bias.
