Reading
The index is free to read, for everyone, without an account. We do not paywall findings, sell them, or license them for advertising suitability, content blocking, or automated moderation.
Accounts
Signing in requires a Google account. Accounts are provided by Alkhalili Labs - one sign-in shared across its projects - but what you do here stays here: your findings, reactions, and handle belong to this site's database and no other project reads them.
You need an account to contribute or react, never to read. We can suspend accounts that abuse the site - spam, harassment, submitting copied work - and moderation decisions are recorded with a note you can see on your account page.
Contributing
A finding must be your own work, written from watching the media yourself, and it must follow the content policy. Submissions are reviewed before publication; up to five may await review at once.
If your finding is accepted, its copyright transfers to Real Bad Media. You affirm this with the checkbox on the contribute form, and the reasoning is public: findings accuse named commercial works, and the site must be able to answer for every one of them without hunting down its author. While a submission is pending you can withdraw it from your account page. Once accepted it stays, even if your account goes - the text remains, the author record is pseudonymised.
Public finding cards carry no bylines. Authorship exists in the database, on your account page, and in moderation - nowhere else.
The site's content
Findings and category explainers are this project's own writing. Catalog facts and images render from Wikidata and Wikimedia; posters may be copyrighted works shown low-resolution for identification on pages of criticism. If you believe something here infringes your rights, write to corrections@realbadmedia.com and we will respond.
The site is provided as is, without warranties. Findings are observations about depictions, made in good faith and open to correction - every finding carries an "Are we mistaken?" path for exactly that reason.
