- Farid, the Egyptian who owns the desert hotel where the story takes place, is played by the Russian-born actor Akim Tamiroff. He hides the wounded British corporal when Rommel's staff take over the hotel, and later supplies the evidence presented at the trial of the French maid accused of killing a German officer.
