- Victor Mature plays Doctor Omar, who wears a fez and introduces himself as a poet of Shanghai and Gomorrah. He attaches himself to Poppy, the young Englishwoman drawn into Mother Gin Sling's casino, and keeps her at the gambling tables as she sinks into debt and drink.
