- The villain Malik, a Middle Eastern-accented black-market music racketeer, schemes to seize the genie for his own use, kidnaps the twelve-year-old hero, and drops the boy down an elevator shaft; the film's only Middle Eastern-coded characters are Malik and his thuggish henchmen.
