Baghdad runs on despotic whim: subjects kneel under a decree that looking at Princess Budur costs a man his head, and Budur amuses herself by ordering Aladdin to look anyway. The villainous magician poses as family to steal the lamp, attacks the boy, usurps the sultanate, and claims the princess as spoils while ordering the genie to kill the hero.
