- The Arabs are a massed enemy horde: they butcher a relief column, storm a Foreign Legion fort, and later use captured uniforms and deception to ambush a second column. The sole motive offered is the leader's passing invocation of Pan-Islam, and the film closes with the surviving Arabs led away in chains as the French flag rises over the fort again.
