- Arab characters appear mainly as an offscreen threat: the teenage refugee Karen is ambushed and killed by Arabs on her way back to the settlement. The one Arab with a sustained speaking role, Taha, is the mukhtar of the neighboring village and a lifelong friend of Ari Ben Canaan, and he is killed by the Mufti's men during the 1948 fighting.
