- Maida Verne, a French-Sudanese woman engaged to John Genghis, the Oxford-educated son of a sheik, is seduced and then abandoned by Sir Harry Falkland, a British official hiding in Africa from a forgery charge. Genghis beats Falkland in a fight and afterwards marries Maida.
