- Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan founds the desert-abduction fantasy: he sabotages an Englishwoman's revolver, carries her off to his tents, and keeps her until captivity turns to love, while Arab men gamble for wives and the bandit Omair supplies the truly savage foil. The romance is finally licensed by the reveal that Ahmed is European-born, not Arab at all.
