Wrong continent

Signifiers borrowed from cultures the work is not depicting, on the assumption that the audience cannot tell them apart. The setting gets dressed in whatever reads as foreign: architecture, props, animals, costume and performance traditions pulled from peoples with no connection to the one on screen. The tell is that the borrowings are never random - they come from other places the same audience already files under exotic.
