Byword

A real place or people reduced to a figure of speech: the name alone stands in for danger, squalor, or treachery, in a work that shows neither the place nor anyone from it. Rhetoric calls this antonomasia. Here it is the cheapest caricature available, because it needs no character, no scene, and no screen time at all - only the assumption that the audience already knows what the name is supposed to mean.
