- The medieval adventure's one prominent Arab is Haroun, a brutal slaver sheikh who has the maiden Zenobia flogged in his tent over a wound to his pride and leaves her face knife-scarred for life. Zenobia gives up all her jewelry, down to her ring, to purchase the hero Pietro's freedom, and when she later lifts her veil to reveal the mutilation she names its author "a devil named Haroun."
