- The Moorish king Aly Mansuh is an obsessive despot who has shipwrecked Norsemen seized, interrogated under threat of torture, and condemned to execution in his hunt for a legendary golden bell; Moorish women register mainly as his wives, the favourite, Aminah, wielding influence only by steering her husband's obsession.
