- Maria's elderly husband, Arthur Ruskin, has made his millions chartering jets that ferry Muslim pilgrims to Mecca, a business he retails as a dinner-table ethnic joke shortly before dropping dead. Muslims enter the film only as that anecdote's faceless cargo - a mass of believers whose function is to make a New York millionaire rich and laughing.
