- Sheikh Hassan, a black-robed Arab slave hunter flanked by mute guards in white thobes, has African villages torched and their people chained, and amuses himself by freeing one captive only to shoot him down mid-escape; another Arab guard severs a slave's hand with a scimitar for daring to drink water. The Western slave traders around him are drawn as comparatively humane.
