- Alwina, the Tunisian local girl, is an exotic to be groomed: a French writer teaches her manners, passes her off in Paris as a princess, and lets her value peak in a provocative dance - before the film returns her to Tunisia as unassimilable, a donkey eating the pages of his novel 'Civilisation' in her farmyard.
