- Pharaoh Khufu is the Egyptian despot as pure avarice, enslaving whole peoples to build his treasure-tomb and condemning its architect to die with its secrets. Women are currency: Princess Nellifer is handed over as tribute in place of taxes, whipped for defiance, and schemes and murders her way toward the throne.
