In the Ginevra tale, a Sultan appears as the indulgent Eastern potentate of fable: so taken with a talking parrot that he buys a merchant's entire cargo to obtain it, he takes the disguised heroine into his service and hosts the banquet where her wrongs are righted. The East is a whimsical bazaar ruled by a potentate's fancies.
