- The Libyans of the title town figure only as an armed, faceless threat: Western treasure-hunters fly into the desert after gold cached in a ruined mosque, and the tribesmen who besiege them at the shrine exist to menace the party and be shot, with no named or ordinary Libyan anywhere in the film.
