- The Egyptian noble Aboul Pasha supplies the villainy: bent on possessing the American ward Elinor, he has her abducted by hired rascals and later sends murderers to burn the family's home. Even the sympathetic Egyptian, the young dragoman Ahmed, figures as a servant installed in the household as a butler.
